This two-phase mechanism distinguishes Radiesse. The gel gives an immediate result visible in the mirror, while the microspheres serve as a scaffold for fibroblasts to deposit new collagen over the following weeks and months.
How Radiesse Works
Radiesse is composed of CaHA microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The gel provides immediate volume and structure upon placement — the effect visible right after the session. The gel is fully biocompatible and is naturally metabolised by the body over the first few weeks.
The CaHA microspheres remain after the gel is absorbed. These microspheres do not fill the space themselves. They act as a scaffold that fibroblast cells recognise and begin depositing new collagen around. The fibroblasts lay down Type I collagen — the structural collagen that gives skin firmness — directly onto the microsphere surface.
Over the following months, the CaHA microspheres are gradually absorbed, leaving behind the new collagen structure that the client’s own cells have built.
Treatment Experience
A single Radiesse session is often sufficient for most clients. Each session takes thirty to forty-five minutes. A topical numbing cream is applied, and the product is delivered through small injection points.
There is some swelling and tenderness for the first few days. The initial volume visible is from the gel carrier and will reduce as the gel is naturally absorbed over the first two to four weeks.
The result develops in phases. Phase one is immediate: the gel adds visible volume right after the session. Phase two is gradual: as the gel absorbs, the CaHA microspheres begin working. At one month, collagen production is well underway. At three to four months, the full collagen-stimulated result is visible.
The final result lasts twelve to eighteen months. A touch-up session at three to four months can extend the duration further. Results vary by individual.
