PicoSure — Picosecond Laser Treatment, Central Hong Kong

PicoSure Pro is an advanced picosecond laser treatment system designed for skin rejuvenation, pigmentation correction, and acne scar treatment. It uses picosecond laser technology, which delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to target skin concerns with minimal damage to surrounding tissue.

The 755nm wavelength is delivered in picosecond pulses — trillionths of a second.

PicoSure Pro is an excellent option for maintenance after the initial course is complete. Many clients return once or twice a year for a single session to maintain skin clarity and tone.

What PicoSure Pro Addresses

PicoSure Pro addresses a range of concerns involving pigment or texture. It treats melasma, age spots, sun damage, and freckles by shattering pigment particles.

  • Melasma and hormonal pigmentation — responds better to pressure-based lasers than heat-based ones
  • Sun spots and age spots — accumulated sun damage on the face, chest, and hands
  • Freckles — both genetic and sun-induced
  • Acne scars — particularly shallow rolling or boxcar scars
  • Enlarged pores and uneven texture — the FOCUS lens array (an add-on handpiece) helps improve skin texture by stimulating collagen and elastin

For deeper acne scars, Fraxel CO2 is available as a more intensive option. For the vascular and texture components that accompany pigmentation, Stellar M22 provides complementary multi-wavelength treatment.

These concerns are also addressed in the uneven skin tone and pores pages. PicoSure Pro is part of the pigmentation, tone, and texture category.

How PicoSure Pro Removes Pigmentation

The PicoSure Pro delivers energy in picoseconds — one trillionth of a second. At that speed, the laser pulse is faster than the thermal relaxation time of pigment particles. Instead of heating the pigment until it breaks down, the pulse creates a mechanical shockwave that fractures the pigment into tiny particles.

Those particles are then cleared naturally by the body’s lymphatic system. Because the mechanism is photoacoustic rather than photothermal, much less heat is transferred to the surrounding skin. This is particularly important for Asian skin types, where heat-based lasers carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

The FOCUS lens array is a separate handpiece that creates LIOB — laser-induced optical breakdown — microscopic vacuoles in the epidermis that trigger a healing response. This is how PicoSure Pro addresses texture concerns alongside pigment: reducing fine lines, acne scars, and enlarged pores through collagen and elastin stimulation.

Treatment Experience

A typical course is three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each session takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the area and the number of concerns being treated.

There is minimal downtime. Some redness and mild swelling for a few hours may occur. Pigmented spots may darken before they fade — this is normal and a sign that the treatment is working. The pigment flakes off over the following one to two weeks.

Results vary by individual. Most people see visible improvement after the first session, with cumulative results building over the full course.

The FOCUS lens array treatments for texture and pores follow a similar schedule. A combination approach is often recommended.
